MEALS ON WHEELS PEI – COMMUNITY SUPPORT WORKER
Cornwall & Area- 1 position (Remote position with some travel to Chapter sites)
Three Rivers – 1 position (Hybrid position – Georgetown/Montague)

Temporary Contract (8 weeks)

Estimated Start Date: July 2, 2024

37.5 hours per week, $17.00 per hour

(Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 3:30 pm)

Meals on Wheels PEI is the collaborative leader for the delivery of nutritious and affordable meals to persons in need.  We support Meals on Wheels Chapters across Prince Edward Island and empower local community programs to improve the health and quality of life of the seniors they serve so that no one is left hungry or isolated.

Meals on Wheels Community Support Workers will provide logistical support and direct client service to seniors and people with diverse abilities through the Meals on Wheels program. They will assist in program design, scheduling, communications and outreach in their communities.

Tasks and Responsibilities

    • Work with the Meals on Wheels PEI Provincial Coordinator to assist in development and growth programming in their local communities

    • Assist in logistical support (phone calls, deliveries) for local Chapters and the Rural Routes program

    • Create content for social media channels

    • Assist with volunteer recruitment

    • Assist with partnership development

    • Assist the Food for All Coordinator in maintaining local garden spaces

    • Assist with local food initiatives including the community fridge and community meals

Skills/Qualifications

    • This job is funded through Canada Summer Jobs 2024, and to be eligible applicants must:
        • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period

        • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment

        • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with Prince Edward Island legislation and regulations

    • Satisfactory police records check for the vulnerable sector

    • Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills

    • Excellent attention to detail

    • Ability to work independently

    • Experience with older adults, volunteers and/or persons with diverse abilities an asset

    • Ability to communicate in language other than English an asset

    • Valid Driver’s License and daily access to a safe, licensed and reliable vehicle for business-related travel
